Our Mission

Young Lives Redeemed seeks to empower youth to overcome childhood trauma and achieve stability and self-sufficiency through intensive and comprehensive support services, including connection to trauma-informed mental healthcare and substance use treatment, sustainable housing, secondary and post-secondary education, vocational programming, job training and living wage employment.

Many foster youth age out of the foster care system with nowhere to go.

Depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other debilitating mental illnesses inhibit emancipated youth from creating healthy and sustaining relationships, furthering their education, and gaining employment. Other than very limited, underfunded, and overcrowded public health options, almost no high-quality resources exist for these youth to get the critical mental health treatment they so desperately need.

Without the treatment necessary to cope with their mental illnesses, many emancipated youth will turn to drugs and alcohol to self-medicate their mental health symptoms. Addiction becomes the gateway to homelessness, incarceration and institutionalization. For the few treatment programs that do exist, the waiting lists are often long, treatment is short, and aftercare is almost non-existent. These limited resources are often allocated, due to funding restrictions, to those individuals exiting jail or prison. Moreover, these facilities offer treatment programs which do not address the specialized needs of traumatized former foster youth. The success rate for our youth in these types of facilities is extremely low.  Experience with our clients indicates that dual diagnosis care — treating mental illness and addiction simultaneously — produces the highest level of success.

Young Lives Redeemed has successfully developed a network of collaborative partners to offer services covering multiple disciplines to support those in need.

These partners are represented by local and nationwide inpatient therapeutic treatment facilities, outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment clinics, independent mental health professionals, structured sober living homes, educators, employers and programs for job training and transitional living. These programs are offered to Young Lives Redeemed for the benefit of our participants at no cost to our participants. Together, these collaborators and Young Lives Redeemed offer an integrated array of services which allow us the opportunity to take our participants from homelessness to stability and self-sufficiency.

Within days of, if not the same day that, a transitional age emancipated foster youth signals a readiness to turn his/her life around, Young Lives Redeemed will have placed the youth in a private, proven successful therapeutic treatment center, where he/she can get the treatment necessary to heal from the unresolved childhood trauma. This is the first step of the Young Lives Redeemed Wellness Program and begins the journey toward becoming a permanent, productive member of society.
